SA Duathlon Champs for Cape Town

Cape Town has been appointed the host city for the upcoming SA Duathlon Championships, which take place on Saturday 18 June from the Green Point Park.

Triathlon South Africa (TSA) will use this event to select the national team to go to the World Duathlon Championships in Gijon, Spain on the 24 and 25 September 2011.  A field of top competitors from all over the country are expected to take part in the Cape Town event for a chance to make the team. World Triathlon Corporation and New York City Triathlon announced today that the 2012 Ironman U.S. Championship will take place on August 11, 2012.  This race will be the first-ever Ironman competition to be held in the New York City/New Jersey metropolitan region.

On March the 23rd, ATC Running will host their first club race; The ATC Sunset Team Time Trial . As usual, ATC likes to create different and not ‘run of the mill’ races, and hence the format of the team time trial. Each team will consist of 4 runners, and each runner will run 3kms. The beauty of this race is that it is through the new Urban Park in Green Park. It takes in the stadium, the pedestrian and cycle paths surrounding the parks, the new urban outdoor gym/fitness area and the Urban Park Amphitheatre. [Read more…]

New Sponsor for Triathlon World Championship Series

International shipping company Rock-It Cargo has signed on as a major sponsor of the International Triathlon World Championship Series.

As part of the deal, which has been brokered by the International Triathlon Union’s (ITU) organisational and marketing partner Upsolut Event GmbH, Rock-It-Cargo will serve as the official transport logistic service of the series.

Marisol Casado, ITU president and International Olympic Committee (IOC) member, said of the deal: “It is our great pleasure to have partnerships with such a professional logistic partner. Rock-It Cargo has a great reputation in the concert touring industry and we are delighted to tie in with them on the Series events worldwide.”

Andreas Mattick, managing director, Rock-it Cargo Germany GmbH, added: “Similar to the needs of a triathlon athlete, a sport logistics provider also requires persistence, focus, a good strategy and a strong will to achieve their targets. That’s why we’re extremely pleased to support the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series.”

Rock-It Cargo joins a host of other sponsors of the Triathlon ITU World Championship Series including title-sponsors Dextro Energy, Finnish sports marketing company Suunto who are the official timing and data partner, global bike partner Specialized Bicycle Components and global charity partner the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.

Paul Coleman, managing director of ITU World Championship Series, also expressed his delight at the deal: “We are extremely delighted that Rock-It Cargo finds the partnership as enhancing its brand image. The Dextro Energy Triathlon 2011 ITU World Championship Series begins over the weekend of 9th and 10th April in Sydney and culminates in the Grand Final in Beijing on the weekend of the 10th and 11th September.

Gateway Iron Challenge Comes to Mullingar

The Gateway Iron challenge is Ireland’s first adventure race to be held over three days which will involve a swim, bike and run race. The distance of each of the three disciplines is the “Iron distance” and consists of a 3.68 km swim, a 180.2km cycle and a 42.19km (26.2ml) marathon run. The marathon will be run in association with Mullingar Harriers athletic club and the cycle in association with Lakeside Wheelers cycling club. [Read more…]
